Define where the shipment enters—and where it is delivered
For a cable order going to El Salvador, “delivery to San Salvador” does not identify the international route or customs office. Ask whether the shipment will unload at a Salvadoran Pacific port, arrive by air or come overland after unloading in a neighboring country. Resolve this before comparing freight prices or preparing export instructions.

Register the correct importer
The DGA's DUI/NIT importer and exporter registration service distinguishes individuals from companies. Companies provide their NIT and documentation of the legal representative; previously registered traders do not simply repeat the process for every order. Confirm the buyer's existing status and the representative who will handle this shipment.
Use the same legal identity throughout the purchase order, commercial invoice and customs instructions. If a contractor purchases the cable but another company imports it, settle the buyer/consignee arrangement before pickup, not after the bill of lading is issued.
SIDUNEA clearance is a separate milestone from arrival
DGA's definitive-import procedure, updated June 2026, lists the invoice, transport document and cargo manifest among the requirements. It describes DUCA-D processing in SIDUNEA World and different selectivity outcomes, including documentary or physical review. Confirm the complete file and the relevant filing procedure with the broker; do not promise automatic clearance.
The DGA online-services directory provides SIDUNEA World, electronic-signature and payment-system access. Agree who submits, pays and monitors the declaration, and who arranges terminal release after authorization. Provide a separate packing list identifying each reel and any loose boxes so receiving staff can reconcile the cargo.
Acajutla, La Unión and an overland alternative
CEPA's directory distinguishes Acajutla in Sonsonate, La Unión and the international airport at San Luis Talpa. An airport arrival must not be treated as an Acajutla maritime shipment.
- Acajutla: ask for the ocean service, cargo terminal, deconsolidation charges if applicable, and the inland leg to the receiving city.
- La Unión/Cutuco: confirm an available cargo service for the proposed date and reel size. A port listing or development announcement is not a confirmed sailing.
- Transit through Guatemala or Honduras: obtain the foreign unloading port, border route and customs destination. The road-transit arrangements do not replace the Salvadoran import clearance.
For delivery to San Salvador, Santa Ana or San Miguel, give the exact site address and unloading limits. A heavy power-cable reel may need different equipment from cartons of network cable. Ask which party covers a failed delivery attempt or additional handling if the site cannot receive the load.

Planning reference from CBP Appendix F, February 2022 (archived copy), not a current operational list. Before filing, have the forwarder confirm the actual port and current code against CBP Schedule K. An “other ports” entry is not a substitute for identifying a known terminal.
The Census AES instructions use Schedule K for the foreign port of unlading on vessel shipments. It is neither the tariff classification nor the U.S. port-of-export code. The authorized filer determines whether EEI is required and which data apply to the transport mode.
If the vessel unloads outside El Salvador, the filer must use the applicable unloading-port information for that route, not choose Acajutla solely because the ultimate customer is Salvadoran.
Do not confuse origin preference with a product approval
CAFTA-DR can provide preferential treatment for qualifying goods; it does not make every cable sold from the United States duty-free. Ask the broker to confirm classification, origin evidence and applicable taxes for the entry. Specify the manufacturer and actual origin, including where a U.S. distributor supplies imported stock.
The U.S.–El Salvador reciprocal trade agreement was signed January 29, 2026. Verify the implemented provisions relevant to the product and entry date before relying on any announced change. For technical requirements, consult the applicable regulations through OSARTEC and the authority responsible for the installation.
For a building, network or control-system project, obtain written approval of the exact part and listing before ordering cut lengths. A manufacturer's datasheet, an origin document and an engineering acceptance are different records. None should be presented as automatically satisfying the others.
